UK album release – March 29 2010

The Nation’s Favourite Choir releases first “crossover” album

This ‘Glorious’ album by the Nation’s Favourite Choir is evidence of the power and beauty of the human voice. On their first ever ‘crossover’ album, the London Community Gospel Choir showcase their extraordinary voices, glorious harmonies and stunning arrangements, mixing classic songs ‘Let It Be’, ‘Now That We Found Love’ ‘Hallelujah’ and U2’s ‘One’ with some of the most enduring inspirational anthems, such as ‘Amazing Grace’, ‘Abide With Me’, ‘Swing Low, Sweet Chariot’ and ‘We Shall Overcome’.

Recorded at the infamous, but now threatened, Abbey Road Studios and at Air Studios, ‘Glorious’ will be the London Community Gospel Choir’s first ever 'crossover‘ album – they have previously released nine gospel albums. With a new found wave of appreciation for big vocal harmony singing – including the phenomenal success of US TV show Glee, now enjoying huge chart success with a UK Number 1 album, and the BBC’s big rating TV show ‘Last Choir Standing’ – as well as platinum selling ‘choral’ CDs (The Priests, Only Men Aloud, Fron Male Voice Choir), this record by the London Gospel Community Choir shows vocal harmony singing at its glorious best.

Rev Bazil Meade, founder and principal of the choir, explains why they have recorded this unique record: “The choir performs to audiences around the world and, as well as singing pure gospel music, the performances include a broader range of musical styles. After more than two years of planning, we believe that this album reflects their live shows and their wonderful ability to present this glorious music without limitations.”

The London Community Gospel Choir, which was founded by Bazil in 1982, is largely recognised as the pioneer of gospel music in the UK and the Nation’s Favourite Choir. The choir of choice for sporting occasions (including the 2009 FA Cup), celebrity events (such as Wayne Rooney’s wedding & Live 8) and TV shows such as X Factor and Royal Variety Performance, the LCGC have also sung with some of the world's biggest artists, from Madonna, La Roux and Elton John to Gorillaz, Spiritualized and P Diddy, and for such notable dignitaries as Nelson Mandela.

If any evidence is needed of the power and glorious beauty of the human voice, LCGC provides it – their sound is, literally, spine-tingling. A collective of the finest voices in the country, the choir members are of all ages, races, religions and backgrounds and, although rooted in the glorious gospel tradition, their unique style also spans soul, R’n’B and swing-beat and is delivered with irresistible energy and choreography.

LCGC were the sound of ITV's 2009 FA Cup coverage with the theme song ‘Abide With Me’. Their glorious rendition brings a whole new meaning to the phrase ‘community singing’, as was evidenced when they led the crowd, and raised the roof, by singing it on the pitch at Wembley last year before the 2009 FA Cup Final. The choir recently led the vocal celebrations at Twickenham’s centenary match when England met Wales in the Six Nations 2010 and they have already been invited to play a role in the lead up to the London 2012 Olympics.
